Seagull Salon is a four-chair boutique hair salon in the West Village offering cut, color, highlights, and hair styling services in a friendly luxury setting. The salon is open evenings and Sundays to accommodate New York's best and busiest. Originally opened in 1971, in the heyday of gay liberation, not a stone's throw from the Christopher Street piers and the historic West Village Stonewall bar, Seagull Salon was named for Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Richard Bach's best-seller of the time. It was the first unisex barber shop in New York City (if not the country) and the original gold script "for women. . . for men" still emblazons the salons window. Over the years Seagull has changed hands several times, evolving from an idiosyncratic barber shop to a creative hair salon offering color services as well as hair cuts.
Our salon staff will work with your personal style and hair type to find the color and cut that works best for you. Seaull also offers hair straightening and relaxing. Unlike large compartmentalized hair salons, our creative hair stylists are also expert colorists -- finally your highlights will be placed to fall perfectly in your new bangs! When booking your hair cut, color or blowout appointment please consult with our salon receptionist or view our stylist profiles to help determine the best match. Whether you are a luxury blonde looking for someone new to maintain your highlights or you want a stylist who really understands how to cut and style curly hair, there is someone at Seagull Salon for you. And yes, bang trims are always free between appointments!
